The No Expressway Alliance was launched on Friday 14th Sept. Liz Hutchins, national Campaigns Director for Friends of the Earth, joined councillors from all political parties in speaking out and stressing that this is a national issue.

A group of Oxfordshire planners have gone public with their concerns about the Expressway and the Oxfordshire 2050 Plan, calling for the proposed road to be scrapped and for the 2050 Plan to be rewritten from the start.

The critique of the Oxfordshire 2050 Plan is: "Balancing Oxfordshire’s Growth in a Climate Change Emergency"

Their proposals to scrap the Expressway and develop alternatives is: Oxford to Cambridge Corridor – An 'Alternative Strategy'

Noel Newson, formerly chief assistant engineer at Oxford city council, said: “The plans for Oxfordshire must take account of the climate crisis. It is folly to be building major new roads which will only add to carbon emissions. Instead we should be planning to locate new housing where people don’t need to use a car for their every need. And of course you don’t need HGVs to transport ideas between leading universities.” ...

A group of Oxfordshire planners have today launched a call to scarp the Expressway and develop an integrated transport alternative. It's full of useful ideas and information for anyone campaigning on this.

They have also produced a document crtiiquing the Oxfordshire 2050 plan and call for the council to "restart Oxfordshire 2050 on a blank canvas"

Another mad road scheme bites the dust! (Can the Expressway be far behind?)

The M4 relief road near Newport has been rejected by the Welsh Government - great news for Wales and the planet, says Friends of the Earth Cymru

Friends of the Earth Cymru director Haf Elgar said: “As well as costing Welsh taxpayers over £2 billion pounds, this devastating road would have ploughed through the unique, wildlife-rich Gwent Levels, pumped more climate-wrecking emissions into our atmosphere, and ultimately caused even more congestion and air pollution.

“This decision is testament to the untiring efforts of local residents who have opposed this plan over decades and is a clear signal that the Welsh Government is taking its climate emergency declaration and commitment to future generations seriously.” ...
